The bouquet and the taste are dominated by the notes of fresh citrus, apple, and lychee. The medium long sip is accompanied by vibrant, wide acids. It feels refreshing in the mouth and makes a fine aperitif.

It makes an excellent aperitif when well chilled; also a great companion to poultry, fish dishes and salads.

2022

In 2022, blooming started later than usual. The high temperatures caused the vines to catch up in terms of growth. During the summer, the low rainfall and the abundance of sunshine meant that the berries were smaller than usual, but the ripening process was much faster. From a phytosanitary point of view, it was a very good year. The symptoms of drought damage were less pronounced in our older plantations and in our better-positioned vineyards, but of course, the characteristics of the varieties and clones also play a role. The correct choice of harvest date was of particular importance, resulting in fresh and fruity wines of the vintage that are not overly alcoholic.

Dry white wine

Villány Wine Region

VARIETIES

Olaszrizling (70%), Riesling (30%),

VINIFICATION-MATURATION

Each variety was treated independently, separately fermented in tanks at 16 to 20°C and then the two wines were blended. No malolactic fermentation was performed, thus the wine retains its natural acids. A wine made with the reductive approach; this (oxygen-isolated) process preserves the fresh and perfumy fruitiness.

A true rosé by nature. The lively fruitiness of strawberries and lime are reminiscent both in the bouquet and taste. The freshness and vividness are supported by the powerful and sharp acidity, asking for another sip each time. On the label: one of the characters from the ancient Villány legend, the saviour Cock shouting out that the sun has risen.

As an aperitif well-chilled and as a pair of light meals (salads and roasted poultry).

MACSKA Portugieser 2022

In the Villany wine region, portugieser is a variety that can be found in every cellar. In the ‘Legend of the devil-plowed hill’ it is represented by the cat. We couldn’t live everyday life without it. Athirst-quenchingly fruity, nice, and easygoing wine that ‘purrs’ and flatters–a wine that feels good to drink every day! The varietal-specific red berries are characterizing this wine both on the nose and on the palate. Its tannins are soft and velvety.

It is a good match with lighter Hungarian dishes, fish for example, and Italian starters and pastas.

HЁRKA Chardonnay 2021

The Herka of the 2021 vintage remains fresh and brash – the vintage is characterised by refreshing acidity. The tart citrusiness of the lime, the fragrant freshness of the green apple, and the “saltiness” of the minerality are nicely complemented by juniper and cedar barrel notes. The wine is long and spicy, serious and light at the same time, an interesting combination.

Our chardonnay is round, fresh and ethereal, like the character it is named after. In the ancient legend of Villány HЁRKA is the beautiful maiden, whom the devil couldn’t resist.

An excellent aperitif when well chilled. Goes well with creamy, creamy flavors such as cream of vegetable soups, béchamel, white meats with cheese, fish, and grilled vegetables.

2021

The unusually cool spring of the 2021 vintage was followed by abundant summer sunshine. This brought in the backwardness of grape development, so harvest dates evoked “old times”. The warm summer and the moderate rainfall allowed the formation of pleasant aromas. The cooler October weather following sunny September has contributed to the development of more vibrant acids, which will result in vibrant, vibrant wines from this vintage.

Dry white wine

WINE REGION: Villány | Pillangó vineyard, Plateau

GRAPE VARIETIES: Chardonnay 100%

VINIFICATION-MATURATION

One-third of the wine was matured in barrels. Whole clusters of grapes were pressed, and after sedimentation most part of the must was fermented slowly and steadily in tanks and barrels between 16 to 20°C. Barrel aging: in 225-liter Hungarian oak barrels for 4 months. The lees were stirred multiple times(applying the so-called batonnage technique)thus supporting the development of a more full-bodied, creamy, and flavor-rich character. Then the two wines were blended.

ÖRDÖG is the blend of local varieties in the classicus product range, named after the Devil in love in the traditional Villány legend. This wine is best characterised by its muscular structure and dynamic, refreshing acidity. Its fruitiness shows notes of dried cherries and ripe plums. On the finish, it is the cocoa powder-like flavour and silky texture that lingers. The love of the legendary devil lives on in this lively blend.

It pairs well with slightly heavier, fattier roasts or even with a spicier vegetable stew. Also excellent with Hungarian paprika dishes, Italian pastas and not too strong-tasting cheeses.

2020

The vintage of 2020 featured cooler weather (following a warm spring) and average precipitation. The high annual heat had a positive impact on ripening – taste, scent and aromatic notes are quite concentrated in wines from this vintage. The months around the harvest had low volume of rain, long periods of sunshine and cool nights, enabling us the work with grapes that have high levels of acidity.

Bogyólé 2022

BOGYÓLÉ, thebozsolé” of the Villány hills, the first red wine of the vintage, is made following the Beaujolais Nouveau [bozsolé] winemaking tradition of France. It is the only red wine that is red only in colour and contains almost no tannin. The wine itself is born within the berry and then explodes into life. This is what the name “Bogyólé” refers to. As with new wine, the first wine of the 2022 vintage has the typical new wine character that we love: succulent, lively, joyful, bursting with fruit. Raspberry candies on the nose, with strong notes of fresh cherry and freshly grated lime on the palate. Drinks you up and cheers you on

TRIVIA:
With our traditional yearly artistic competition, the nouveau wine debuts in a new costume every year. This year, all graphic design programs in higher education were invited to the competition, and the institutions were also represented on the panel assessing the submissions. This year’s winner is Dóra Murin, a student of MOME, Budapest.

Traditionally recommended for St. Martin’s Day delicacies (especially goose meals)!
