Cabernet Franc

A little tamer than its famous relative, it loves the conditions offered by Villány’s soil (becoming benchmark of Villany). It produces reliably from year to year and provides some unforgettable wines. It is a wine with many faces and offers great potentials alongside its ripe fruitiness, which harmonises with its velvety tannins and distinctive tartness.

Cabernet Franc has found his new home in Villany. It perfectly suits the terroir and produces reliably year by year at our estate.

This vintage is complex with serious structure, displays beautiful balance of vivid acidity and velvety tannins. The fruitiness and barrel notes (chocolate, coffee & cedar) are nicely balanced on the palate. It’s a rich, well-poised and energetic wine, representing an excellent value in a sense of delicacy.

“The elegant wine, that of Villány is the wine of the cavaliers and the ladies” - writes Béla Hamvas. The cavalier means cabernet franc for us, we would give him for balls. „Have had a bath, shaved and changed from head to toe in tails” - according to Hamvas. He’s noble, fine, straight, well-poised, energetic representing an excellent value. A cavalier who shows his good qualities even in his senior years.

Deep purple, full-bodied, gripping wine. In the rich, complex nose you can discover all aromas from red berried fruits to the world of oriental spices. The accent is on the fruitiness with vivid, but fine acidity and on the long finish. Good match with game dishes, stews and ripe cheeses.

The south facing vineyard delivers a full bodied and deep purple wine. It was matured for 16 months in barrels made of Zemplen and Mecsek oaks. Ripe fruits determines the aromas, complemented with dark chocolate, mint and liquorice. The wine has ripe tannins, that make it a good accompaniment with beef steaks, roasts and ripe cheeses.

Made from grapes grown on the south and southwesterly slopes of Pillango single vineyard in the Villany region, the resulting wine is elegant, full bodied and deep purple in colour. It was matured for 16 months in 225 l barrels made of Zemplen and Mecsek oaks. At tasting the dominant notes are of dark forest fruits complemented with dark chocolate and eucalypt. The wine has well defined but ripe tannins that maintain its balance. Recommended with beef steaks, roasts and mature cheeses.

Medium bodied wine with a deep ruby colour. The accent is on the fruit both on the nose and the palate. It is full of refreshing red fruits of all sorts presented with vibrant and lively acidity, while the tannins are silky and smooth. This is a perfect wine for food and ideal with stews, roast chicken and duck or pork with pruned fruits and with light and medium matured cheeses.
